The substitute mothers
The substitute mothers (our workers) visit the orphans‘ households and show them how to grow vegetables.
The Yomelela helpers are comforters. The photo above shows a girl whose knitted doll is sad and speaks: „I miss my Gogo – Granny (she died of covid) and I miss my brother too…“
The comfort dolls are the best therapy aids. The children feel visibly relieved after the talks. They would never talk about their feelings themselves, but the doll is allowed to share their pain.
